Tips To Cook Basmati Rice In An Electric Rice Cooker

Have you tried basmati rice? This aromatic grain is famous all around. It makes an integral part of Indian dishes that send people on an epicurean delight.

You might have heard about many ways to cook basmati rice, but have you ever tried preparing it in an electric pressure cooker? Well, it’s the best way to cook rice.

The process is simple, and as long as you follow all the instructions, it gets you perfectly cooked rice.

Here is how you can make perfect rice in an electric pressure cooker —

Soak the rice instead of rinsing

Before cooking rice, we either soak it or rinse it. Instead of rinsing, we would prefer you to soak the rice. You may ask, why soaking? It makes a lot of difference! Soaking allows the grains to absorb water and become supple. Even the best basmati rice brands need soaking to appear fluffier upon cooking.

It also helps cut back the starch present in rice grains. This prevents them from sticking together. Also, you’ll have separated and fewer broken rice grains. Such texture looks perfect when you serve it.

Tips to cook basmati rice in an electric pressure cooker:

  • Take 1 cup Jashn basmati rice
  • Water for soaking
  • 1 tsp ghee/olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt (it’s optional)
  • Take rice in a medium-sized bowl and rinse well. After that, soak it for about 30-60 minutes.
  • After soaking, drain and keep it aside.
  • Now, add the drained basmati rice to an instant pot or electric pressure cooker. Add water, ghee, and salt as required.
  • Set it to manual pressure mode on high-pressure for about four minutes. After that, let the pressure release naturally. Once it’s done, you can manually release the remaining pressure.
  • Fluff the rice using a fork and let it stand for a few minutes before serving hot.

Skip the soaking part if you’re short on time

If you are in a hurry, you can skip the soaking part. But be sure to rinse the basmati rice well before cooking.

Skipping the soaking part may result in broken and sticky grains. But that’s not a big deal. You can still enjoy your perfect meal.

Not only plain rice, but you can also cook other types of rice dishes in the electric pressure cooker! This includes pudding, khichdi, and more.

Here is a list of delicious rice you can enjoy instead of plain rice.

Rice patties

Rice patties are crispy and flavourful snacks you can enjoy on a rainy day. Use the leftover rice and turn it into patties. You can add salt, coriander leaves, or spices per your liking. Fry the patties in a pan until golden brown.

Rice with saffron

You can enhance the plain rice with a bit of saffron strands. Add 3-4 saffron strands before cooking it in the electric pressure cooker. It will make the rice more flavorful and aromatic.

Fried

Whenever you have leftover rice, turn it into a quick fried rice recipe. Use some oil, soy sauce, leftover veggies, and hot sauce to make fried rice.

Serve basmati rice with a side-dish

You can serve the plain basmati rice with vegetables, butter chicken, and other curries.

Make pilaf or pulao

It’s always a great idea to turn your plain rice into pilaf or pulao. You can pack it with traditional Indian spices.
